Tahoe Retreat House
Transition State Design created the modern mountain aesthetic in this Tahoe retreat home for a Los Angeles-based family looking to escape city life for the weekend.
The owners of this Tahoe home are a young couple with three young children all under six years old. With a main vision to enhance the flow of the preexisting architecture, Transition State Design was called upon to create a family retreat with a modern mountain aesthetic that felt year-round. The family purchased the property with no furniture, and the Transition State team later joined the process post-sale, hired to bring the home to life.
Given that they started with a blank space, the design trio was able to create a fully customizable home that is perfect for all occasions, ranging from small gatherings to large family events. Because of the property’s modern architecture, the team sought out to balance it with warm and soft textures such as natural rock, warm camel leather to tie in the wood detailing, touches of boucle, wool, and linen to round-out the home with small moments of impact.
After five months, the result was a perfectly curated livable space that allows for the family and their guests to unwind from the bustling LA lifestyle for a weekend — or longer.
