Avian Apartment
Alicia Holgar carried out the light and luxurious design for the refurbishment of this Brisbane apartment perched above the city skyline.
Echoing Seidler’s sentiments within the architecture, form & function evolved through a play on curves, cantilevers, materiality & art as an integrated expression of ingenuity.
The brief was to re-imagine the client’s apartment into a luxurious and impressive residence with a light and welcoming atmosphere. Laden with black and red furniture on a stark palette of finishes, the initial space felt cold and abrupt. Whilst a full refurbishment would have provided the opportunity for a comprehensive make over, it was requested that the original kitchen and bathrooms remained. The refurbishment addressed interior architecture, design and decoration through colour scheme, material palette and finishes, light fixtures and fittings, tapware and hardware, custom designed furniture, rugs and joinery, soft furnishings, and an array of integrated and investment artworks. A striking curved and cantilevered wall was built within the open plan lounge to extend the fluid architecture, whilst providing the function of ample book space and a frame television that doubles as an artwork. Through a sustainable minimum input, maximum output approach that supported an array of local suppliers and craftsmen, the project has achieved an impressive transformation within budget and timeframe. A creative layering process has allowed the interior environment to extend and unfold with innovation, craftsmanship, character and resonance that is respectfully tailored to the client.
