  • When Kelly Martin’s clients, a young Hollywood couple, called on her to reimagine their first home, she knew that she wanted to maintain the original mid century charm. Without any renovations since the 1980s, it was also in need of a major facelift, so Kelly implemented a design strategy that would incorporate the necessary updates to give it a modernized feel while still staying clean and bold. To execute the couples first-ever remodel, Kelly opened up the dropped ceilings to expose beautiful beams and vaulted ceiling. By knocking out some of the dividing walls, the space became more open and airy, and as a result appears larger than before.

Kelly also completely redesigned the kitchen and bathrooms and installed brand new hardwood flooring, windows, lighting, and walls. Tile from Fireclay, Ann Sacks, and Daltile adds a fresh color palette and a thoughtful lighting program sourced from makers such as Louis Poulsen/DWR, Allied Maker, Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup for Gubi/DWR establishes an elevated mood throughout. To furnish the space, her team selected a curated mix of old and new — authentic mid century modern pieces sourced from MidcenturyLA and DEN and hand picked vintage Moroccan rugs by Due East amplifying the midcentury charm original to the home.
